Established 2024
"Coddiwomple" is an old English word meaning: To travel purposefully towards an as yet unknown destination.
Our Vision
To champion a world where theatre and culture are not a luxury; where pathways into the industry are accessible and valued; and where the Arts stand alongside healthcare, education, transport, and housing as essential pillars of societal wellbeing.

Why Coddiwomple?
Because it reminds us to embrace the journey and welcome the joyous surprises of the creative process.
We allow ourselves to make mistakes, understanding that they often reveal unexpected and transformative ideas.
We are guided by a single question: Why theatre?
What is it about a story, an idea, or concept that can only be expressed, developed, or fully realised as a theatrical experience?
This question inspires us to create work that surprises, delights, and transforms.
Our Mission
-
To put the artist at the heart of every project, building structures that support creative autonomy.
-
To develop work that asks: Why theatre?
-
To embrace uncertainty as an essential part of the creative process.
-
To explore unique and surprising locations for theatre activity.
-
To advocate for theatre’s vital role in the 21st century.
The company's inaugural show Everyone Rotate Right is a non-verbal theatre piece, involving full-face mask, music and clowning. It was developed in response to the invisible weight that women (in particular) carry, and was shortlisted for the "Best New Show" Award at the Brighton Fringe, 2025.
